Integrative Health Education: Theory & Practice

Prevention is the Best Cure

In integrative health education, we become the investigators in chief looking at our bodies and lives with a whole new lens. You will review some of the genetic, cultural, lifestyle, other factors contributing to illness and trauma, as well as other factors that help shape your reliance on them. Together we will address the underlying issues leading to illness, recognize the cues before they become problems, and discover signs and symptoms of imbalance in the major organs. We will also uncover some of the triggering events, perpetrators, and mediators of poor health and how to modify our lifestyles to achieve optimal health. And we will address other health and wellness issues that can affect our overall health, including the physical, social, emotional, environmental, and spiritual factors that influence optimal health and injury and disease prevention.

We will also address the importance of prevention in an Integrative Health program. Preventive health can save everyone time, money, and life itself.

Integrative Health & Wellness Model

To evaluate overall health, we assess five areas of health and wellness.

The Integrative Process

To better align these five key elements of integrative health and wellness, we teach people how to wisely apply the following process steps:

Exercise

Assessment (Health Risk Factors); Core imbalance; F.I.T.T.P. (Frequency, Intensity, Type, Time, Progression); Strength, aerobics, Pilates, balance, flexibility; Evaluation

Nutrition

Dietary guidelines; Core imbalance; Diagnosis; Intervention; Monitoring; Evaluation

Lifestyle

Stress; Sleep; Work/life balance; Environmental; Chronic inflammation

Social/Emotional

Relationships; Communication; Self-esteem; Coping/resilience; Cognitive health

Spirituality

Purpose/Goals; Beliefs; Values

Healthy Aging

A mature man and woman run along a forest trailLiving longer and living healthier can go hand in hand. And there are many things we can do to live longer, healthier lives. It takes an integrative approach involving exercise, healthy diet, and taking care of our mental health. Together, we identify daily practices we all can take to help manage our health and maintain an optimal quality of life as we age.

This not only includes the absence of disease, but also all aspects of optimal health – physical as well as mental, cognitive, intellectual, environmental, personal, and interpersonal (social) health.
