Gut Health
The Foundation of Our Well-being
One of our main areas of focus is “gut health” because it underlies so much of our health and well-being. Our gut communicates with our brains and affects everything in our bodies, including our overall health, health risks, mood, and how we feel. You might say our brains and bodies are only as good as our guts.
How gut health works
“Gut health” involves the function and balance of trillions of bacteria and other microorganisms living in symbiosis with their human host, inside the GI tract. They help us maintain our overall health. But if they are replaced by unhealthy bacteria, these invaders can expose us to illness, allergies, and intolerance.
How we can promote gut health
There are many dietary ways to promote gut health, including eating a variety of whole grains and lentils, fermented foods (e.g., sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, miso), fresh vegetables and fruit daily, more organic food choices and avoiding chemicals, plain, high-quality yogurt and more. Getting adequate sleep is also essential, as well as regular exercise, and not overusing antibiotics, which can wipe out both bad and good bacteria.
For a comprehensive Gut Health Program based on personalized health risk factors and overall health, sign up for Jackie’s Gut Health class.
